Goodbye acrylic nails, hello fun!

About 6 months ago, I decided to ditch my acrylic nail obsession. Not only was it costly, but damaging to my nails as well! As cute as they were, I said goodbye and soaked them off after a 2 year run with them.

After an excruciating growing out process, my nails were finally back to normal and I could do all sorts of fun things with them!

I first experimented with the sally hansen nail sticker polish. It turned out great! It was super easy and they looked awesome. Only downside was after like one day they started peeling :(

After a while, I was just played around with different color polishes depending on the season or whatever holiday was coming up. I began to get bored and was almost thinking about calling my nail tech to spice up my nails with some acrylis. Until one day, I was playing on pintrest.com (i can spend hours on that site!!) and I came across this:

According to all i have read about this water nail technique, all you do is choose some different polishes and drop some drops into a cup of water, swirl the colors together and then dip.

It looked so easy and so much fun! I've tried it two times now and i haven't quite gotten it but im going to keep trying to perfect it! heres my first attempt:

I had just gotten the new polishes from china glaze inspired by the hunger games and wanted to try them all at once :)

today, I attempted my second try at it and decided to only do one finger
this time, I just went with a hot summer pink and some black.

Now, I have found that in all the directions, it says to just dip your nail but i think next time I do it, instead of just dipping it in and out of the water, after I swirl the polish, I think I will dip and kind of skim the top then pull it out of the water to see if that works better at keeping the design so it doesn't look like such a blob.

My next thing, is I want to try galaxy nails and caviar nails!

Welcome to a (belated) new year!

Hello friends! I know we are now in March and spring is right around the corner, but I have just realized I have not posted a new entry since October! Wow. Unacceptable!
New Years Resolution for 2012: Post more entries!

With a new year, came some changes! I recently moved to a new place that I love which is in south Fort Myers bringing me a little farther away from work. The "snowbirds" are in full force here in Cape Coral, Florida. The traffic has been crazy lately. If it wasn't for how much they stimulated our economy I would be very annoyed!

Another change for the new year is my hair! I no longer have long flowing locks. I now have sassy short hair! I must say it was a big change but I am absolutly loving it!

also, we added a new member to our family....

Her name is Winnie, and she is a Teddy bear puppy. Yes, teddy bear is really her breed! It's a mix between a Shit-zu and a Bichon.

Now that I have you up to speed, lets talk about hair trends for the Spring!

This season is all about adding new twists to old styles! The retro style waves are all the rage on the red carpet, were seeing more celebrities go for the short Audrey Hepburn pixie cut, the 80's asymmetrical cuts are making a comeback, and braids have been everywhere from the runway to your local schools.

I love how now-a-days anything goes as far as hair and makeup is concerned.

Now that the warmer season is approaching, I am having more requests for highlights and lighter tones. Ombre hair is still a phenomenon because of its low maintenance and high fashion look. Blondes are wearing more platinum, icy blonde tones, redheads are going for more of a vibrant look and brunets are rocking the sun kissed honey highlights.

Since I haven't posted in a while, here is some fun photos of my lovely clients!

Halloween 2011

This year for halloween I was able to do a few different looks on myself and some friends of mine. In this post, I will post the pictures and give a brief description of what I did. I went to two different 80's nights, Zombicon, and a regular costume party downtown. It was by far the funnest year to dress up! Since I already posted my Zombicon pictures on the previous post, I will just post the 80's nights and the other party! Enjoy!

80's night #1
The girls let my dress them and do hair and makeup. It's pretty crazy that this is all my regular clothes but when you put it together in such a way, it can look pretty ridiculous!

For this look, I curled my hair to the max and teased it until it coulden't be teased anymore! When I think 80's I think big fluffy bangs so that exactly what I did! For the makeup, I wanted to do bright pinks and blues so I blended the two shades on my lid and topped with liner for the ultimate 80's look. I also used that same bright pink eye shadow for my blush. I completed the look with the brightest pink lipstick I could find!

For Jordan's 80's look I teased her hair in 80's fashion. For her eyeshadow I used a bright green all the way to her brows, and topped it off with the bright pink blush and lips.

Tanya has pretty short hair so a little teasing goes a long way! Instead of the pink lips, I went with a bright red to accentuate the outfit and her cute heels. For the eyes, I just used a bright blue on the top and bottom.

80's night #2
This time, we decided to go a little wilder with our 80's looks. This is the result!

This time, I went with black and pink on the eyes and I found these crazy lashes to acetate the look as well as a lightning bolt glitter sticker!

This is the other side. You can see my hair better in this picture. I did a lot of curls and even crimped some pieces!

Here we are in all of our 80's glory! They brought there own outfits, but I did the hair and makeup for them.

I truly believe I was meant to live in the era! It was so much fun getting ready! We even did a mini macbook photo shoot!

Saturday night Halloween party

My mother was going to a costume party as Cleopatra. She basically told me to do whatever so using Elizabeth Taylor as my inspiration, I created my own version.

I felt like cleopatra would wear more gold, so I created a look by blending the two shades together and extending the liner with blue liner as well as black.

Jordan was going as a dark angel. I created this looks using some clever line work using black liner, and glitter liner as well as a few shades of pink and black shadows. I didn't have black lipstick, so I used concealer as a base, then topped it with black eyeliner and set it with black shadow and it lasted her all night!
For her hair, I wanted to show off her eye makeup as much as possible so I teased it into a pompadour with the sides slicked to accentuate the look.

Me and my boyfriend decided to go as phantom of the opera and I was the angel of music. I originally bought him a mask but when he tried it on, it just wasn't working so I decided to paint him a mask instead!

For my Angel of music look, I wanted to have a modern victorian look. Since I just got my hair cut into a long bob, I had to add clip in extensions to my hair and style it to look victorian. For the makeup, I used golds and browns to go with the outfit.

My and my phantom <3

good and evil!

All in all, this was one of the most fun Halloweens I have had in a while! It's the only time of year you can really get fun and creative with your looks and people don't look at you like you have two heads! Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed the post :)

Zombicon 2011!

Every year in downtown Ft. Myers, a Zombie festival is held as a block party in the streets. This is one of my favorite times of year because I get to truly be creative and have a ton of fun with hair and makeup!

This years Zombie theme was old Hollywood. We saw a lot of Marilyn Monroe Zombies, flappers, and dead men in top hats. Also, this year Guinness book of world records was there to record how many zombies attended this years festivities. We are still waiting to hear back with the results but by the looks of it I think we broke the record!

*I took this picture from http://www.zombicon.com/

This year for my costume, I wanted to go for an old fashioned house wife! I ended up finding the cutest costume online fully equipt with a dress, a tulle skirt to fluff up the dress, and bloody stockings. I bought a dead baby backpack and white out contact lenses to complete the look. I also, went to my nail tech Edy at Profiles on Del Prado, and asked to have extra long rounded "claws" to look like I scratched someone up, sick I know. lol

Here are some photos of the fun!

sticker makeup?

Hello everyone! I know I haven't posted in a while and I really have no excuses this time except for lack of motivation! But here is something fun that I discovered recently that I have really been loving!

So my quest to find sticker makeup started on facebook. On my sidebar link I saw these girls wearing cheetah, leopard, and all different designs on there lips! I had to find out what it was! It was a company called Violent lips (you can visit the site at Violentlips.com). They had all kinds of different designs to choose from! I went with the red zebra.

I was so excited to try them! They come 3 in a pack for $14.95. Unfortunately, my first two attempts have been unsuccessful because with all the excitement of trying them, I didn't read the directions! I have one more attempt in my pack and I will be watching the tutorial on the website for tips to applying them!

My other sticker makeup discovery was a little more pricy but so worth it! It's Dior Velvet eyes eyeliner patches!

Anyone who know me knows my obsession with eyeliner so when I found out they sold them at Sephora, I ran to the store to get my kit! It comes with 4 different designs! I haven't had an occasion to wear them to yet but I cannot wait to try them!

Another added bonus when I went to Sephora, I found out they sell the Glitter collection from violent lips there! I didn't get any because the velvet eyes was pretty expensive but I will be returning for those later!
