Halloween 2011

This year for halloween I was able to do a few different looks on myself and some friends of mine. In this post, I will post the pictures and give a brief description of what I did. I went to two different 80's nights, Zombicon, and a regular costume party downtown. It was by far the funnest year to dress up! Since I already posted my Zombicon pictures on the previous post, I will just post the 80's nights and the other party! Enjoy!

80's night #1
The girls let my dress them and do hair and makeup. It's pretty crazy that this is all my regular clothes but when you put it together in such a way, it can look pretty ridiculous!

For this look, I curled my hair to the max and teased it until it coulden't be teased anymore! When I think 80's I think big fluffy bangs so that exactly what I did! For the makeup, I wanted to do bright pinks and blues so I blended the two shades on my lid and topped with liner for the ultimate 80's look. I also used that same bright pink eye shadow for my blush. I completed the look with the brightest pink lipstick I could find!

For Jordan's 80's look I teased her hair in 80's fashion. For her eyeshadow I used a bright green all the way to her brows, and topped it off with the bright pink blush and lips.

Tanya has pretty short hair so a little teasing goes a long way! Instead of the pink lips, I went with a bright red to accentuate the outfit and her cute heels. For the eyes, I just used a bright blue on the top and bottom.

80's night #2
This time, we decided to go a little wilder with our 80's looks. This is the result!

This time, I went with black and pink on the eyes and I found these crazy lashes to acetate the look as well as a lightning bolt glitter sticker!

This is the other side. You can see my hair better in this picture. I did a lot of curls and even crimped some pieces!

Here we are in all of our 80's glory! They brought there own outfits, but I did the hair and makeup for them.

I truly believe I was meant to live in the era! It was so much fun getting ready! We even did a mini macbook photo shoot!

Saturday night Halloween party

My mother was going to a costume party as Cleopatra. She basically told me to do whatever so using Elizabeth Taylor as my inspiration, I created my own version.

I felt like cleopatra would wear more gold, so I created a look by blending the two shades together and extending the liner with blue liner as well as black.

Jordan was going as a dark angel. I created this looks using some clever line work using black liner, and glitter liner as well as a few shades of pink and black shadows. I didn't have black lipstick, so I used concealer as a base, then topped it with black eyeliner and set it with black shadow and it lasted her all night!
For her hair, I wanted to show off her eye makeup as much as possible so I teased it into a pompadour with the sides slicked to accentuate the look.

Me and my boyfriend decided to go as phantom of the opera and I was the angel of music. I originally bought him a mask but when he tried it on, it just wasn't working so I decided to paint him a mask instead!

For my Angel of music look, I wanted to have a modern victorian look. Since I just got my hair cut into a long bob, I had to add clip in extensions to my hair and style it to look victorian. For the makeup, I used golds and browns to go with the outfit.

My and my phantom <3

good and evil!

All in all, this was one of the most fun Halloweens I have had in a while! It's the only time of year you can really get fun and creative with your looks and people don't look at you like you have two heads! Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed the post :)

Zombicon 2011!

Every year in downtown Ft. Myers, a Zombie festival is held as a block party in the streets. This is one of my favorite times of year because I get to truly be creative and have a ton of fun with hair and makeup!

This years Zombie theme was old Hollywood. We saw a lot of Marilyn Monroe Zombies, flappers, and dead men in top hats. Also, this year Guinness book of world records was there to record how many zombies attended this years festivities. We are still waiting to hear back with the results but by the looks of it I think we broke the record!

*I took this picture from http://www.zombicon.com/

This year for my costume, I wanted to go for an old fashioned house wife! I ended up finding the cutest costume online fully equipt with a dress, a tulle skirt to fluff up the dress, and bloody stockings. I bought a dead baby backpack and white out contact lenses to complete the look. I also, went to my nail tech Edy at Profiles on Del Prado, and asked to have extra long rounded "claws" to look like I scratched someone up, sick I know. lol

Here are some photos of the fun!

sticker makeup?

Hello everyone! I know I haven't posted in a while and I really have no excuses this time except for lack of motivation! But here is something fun that I discovered recently that I have really been loving!

So my quest to find sticker makeup started on facebook. On my sidebar link I saw these girls wearing cheetah, leopard, and all different designs on there lips! I had to find out what it was! It was a company called Violent lips (you can visit the site at Violentlips.com). They had all kinds of different designs to choose from! I went with the red zebra.

I was so excited to try them! They come 3 in a pack for $14.95. Unfortunately, my first two attempts have been unsuccessful because with all the excitement of trying them, I didn't read the directions! I have one more attempt in my pack and I will be watching the tutorial on the website for tips to applying them!

My other sticker makeup discovery was a little more pricy but so worth it! It's Dior Velvet eyes eyeliner patches!

Anyone who know me knows my obsession with eyeliner so when I found out they sold them at Sephora, I ran to the store to get my kit! It comes with 4 different designs! I haven't had an occasion to wear them to yet but I cannot wait to try them!

Another added bonus when I went to Sephora, I found out they sell the Glitter collection from violent lips there! I didn't get any because the velvet eyes was pretty expensive but I will be returning for those later!

Hair Feather Extensions... the truth..

So, I have to admit when I first saw the feather craze I jumped on it. They are a cute non premanent way to add some fun to your hair. They have been very popular lately! You can't go anywhere without seeing people of all ages wearing these fun fashion statements.

It wasn't until recently, when I saw an article on PETA that I realized the truth about feather extensions. Fist of all, they are from 100% REAL roosters genetically altered to produce long luxurious saddle feathers (these grow on they're backside and take YEARS to grow). After they are grown, the roosters are de-feathered and killed!
I would have never imagined they killed these roosters just for the feathers! This made me realize we need to find another way to keep clients happy but find a different way to provide feather-like pieces that give the same look without the cruelty.
So my boss Pam found alternative feathers which are hair extensions colored to look like feathers. Another great thing about these are that they are MUCH longer then the real feathers so it makes even more of a statement then the original feathers! They are $15 each and can be re-worn about 3 times.
They come in many different colors! I am currently wearing the black and white striped one made to look like a natural feather.

The next thing I would really like to try is rainbow extensions!

So as you can see, no roosters have to be killed to keep you looking fun this summer!

So I've decided...

Originally when I began my blogging, the purpose for my blog was to document my journey to being a platform artist. Well, since my last experience on stage, as fun as it was, I ultimately decided that it was not for me. I would much rather dedicate my blog to sharing info on products I like, or sharing inspiration and fun hair stuff I come across! So that is the direction I am planning on taking with the rest of my blogging experience!

So here is my newest fun find!

I know it's been around for a while but I decided to try them out! I have pretty fine hair and it's layered so I wasn't sure how it would work out in my hair. But I love it! It holds my bun in for hours! I even wore it to the gym and I didn't have and hair flying around!

Also, Here's some fun new photos of hair and makeup I've done lately!

Here's an updo I did for a bridesmaid

This is makeup I did on myself for a concert.

My review of Wen hair products

So we've all heard the buzz about the latest all natural product in hair care WEN by Chaz Dean. It is an all natural product that claims to take the place of your shampoo, conditioner, leave in treatment, deep treatment, and even shave cream.
I had to try it for myself just to see if it was as fantastic as it claims. I went online to find this magical product. At first I wasn't sure where to look because I wasn't watching one of there many infomercials or QVC specials, so I went to the site I always look first... Amazon.com. They had a few listings but I noticed they were all posted from Chaz Dean himself... I decided to check out his website so I could get more information. On the site, I read about the products and found out they came in many different scents, not just the sweet almond mint that is advertised. Because I'm not a huge fan of having minty scented hair I was intrigued by some of the other scents like cucumber, fig, and lavender.
On both sites I found the prices to be about the same (pretty high if I might add). So on the search for better prices I continued onto other sites to find a better deal! I found the site featured on those late night infomercials claiming to the best deal around! For $29.99 you got a 30 day supply of the conditioning cream, a comb, treatment, styling cream, and some sort of pomade... sounds great! Until you read the fine print... every 3 months they will send you a new 90 day supply and charge you $29.95 plus $7.95 for shipping and handling! Now that was just way too much of a commitment for something I was just trying for the first time.
I continued on my search to a website I never thought I would order from.... QVC.This is the site I ultimately ended up ordering from. For $37.50 (plus $5.72 shipping and handling), I got three 6 oz. conditioning creams in three different scents. I found out the different scents do different things for your hair. I chose the 3 pack recommended for fine hair which included Lavender, Cucumber, and Sweet almond mint(ick).
When I received my package, I could not wait to try it! It came with some instructions so I made sure to read it throughly before using. I then found out with my length of hair I needed 30 PUMPS OF CONDITIONING CREAM!!!! That's like half of the bottle! I immediately felt ripped off. But I decided to give it a try because I already went through the trouble of finding it & ordering it.
The directions say the product should be the first thing you use in the shower and the last thing you rinse. So I took my 30 pumps of product and worked it through my hair, added a little water, combed it through and clipped it up. It seemed strange to have absolutely no lather in a shampoo. But I have to say that when i rinsed my hair and blow dried it after, I was shocked at how soft my hair felt!
I've been using it now for a little over a month and I no longer use the 30 pumps, and I find I use it more as a conditioner. I curl my hair often and use a lot of spray so I found Wen wasn't strong enough to remove the hairsprays. But I really like how soft it has made my hair.

Is it worth it...I would say try it but for that price I could have used other shampoos and conditioners I like.

BTW- sweet almond mint wasn't as stinky as I thought it would be... but Lavender was my favorite.

wtf.

Networking fun!

Networking is a big part of my job. If you don't put yourself out there, chances are people won't see your work and what your all about. I would like to find more avenues to network and grow with my career!
Pam, my boss was nice enough to allow me to be a guest speaker at her most recent event! I gave a mini makeup tutorial to a very wonderful group of ladies! The organization is called 9th Wave and it's a great group of professional women empowering themselves and each other with positivity, life lessons, and new friends. I was a little intimidated at first but I had a lot of fun!

All in all, I have found that as long as you're having fun and love what you do it will never feel like a job!

New Inspiration!

I have been feeling very inspired by different looks lately. When you flip through the fashion magazines, you see a lot of beautiful flowing curls, and mid length updated bobs, and cute pixie styles! I love that anything goes now-a-days! It seems like years prior there always seemed to be one specific trend that everyone was wearing (think Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Anniston, Dorothy Hamel, ect.) I always seem to be on the fence with my own hair. Lately, I've stuck to long hair but aways changing something. A few months back I shaved the side of my hair, then I went very bright red, now I'm rocking Ombre hair color. Here are some photos that have inspired me lately.

This is Missy from Electric Barberellas. The show is 100% tacky but strangely entertaining! But I loved Missy's hair when I saw it! So edgy! Love the color, the shaved panel and her makeup is pretty cool as well! Almost makes me want to re shave my side... but I will continue to let it grow :)

I am loving this color pattern, placement and shade! Also the heaviness of the bangs gives it such a unique look!

I know this is just a painting but I would love to play with the ombre technique using different colors

I also love these loose braided looks! Great for dressing up or dressing down! I especially love the second one because of the volume involved in the style.

So there you have it... the looks that have been inspiring me :)
