Feeling creative

As I posted before about the latest fall looks in style for this year, I had even more inspiration from my friends and clients! They give me the freedom to express my creativity freely and I am forever greatful!
This gorgeous fall inspired ombré worked perfectly for Maria, we we also took her from long locks to a fresher, more updated below the shoulders cut with whisper sexy layers!

For Laura, we created a lighter, more honey shade of ombré highlights over her natural shade. We finished the look with a sassy lob cut and some loose curls with the help of my GHD flat iron.

I have a true love for updos! Valerie allowed me to transform her hair from a dark, reddish brown to a more vibrant shade for a fun new look. After the color, we played with a retro inspired headband that inspired me to give her an updo just for fun! I love this look!

Jamie has had a level 4 dark reddish brown for a while now and was looking to spice it up a bit. I began with a color remover to lighten her tresses then applied a more vibrant shade of red accompanied by some panels of blonde.

This isen't a color you get to do often! I made Jenna's strawberry blonde hair a little more funky by removing the color then applying Pravana yellow. It's a fun, unique look that is perfect for the client that's not afraid to be a little different!

Fall preview 2013

When I think of fall, thoughts of leaves changing, chilly weather, comfy sweaters, and pumpkin spice come to mind. Also, this is a time many clients thing about making a change to their hair. If they went ombré for the summer, they are ready for richer, warmer tones. Those who went darker, are looking for more dimension with different tones like toffee, caramel, or even mocha. They may sound like favors to you, but in the mind of a hairstylist all I see are swirls of rich tones and inspiration.
As I browse my Pinterest board for inspiration I found so many beautiful inspiring images I want to share with you! These are some of my personal favorites.

In this photo, I love the two tone look of her rich chocolate brown.

What looks cuter with a blazer or sweater than a sophisticated up do? I am loving her smokey eye in this photo as well. Perfect for a date night or any special occasion.

Bangs are making a full comeback! I'm not just saying that because I recently cut some bangs on my shoulder length hair. They are a fun way to update any length of hair.

Sock bun, ballerina bun, donut, call it what you like but this look screams sophistication. It's a classic that will never fade away. With so many forms and tools to make it easier to create yourself at home, this look is a must for the fall.

Welcome to a (belated) new year!

Hello friends! I know we are now in March and spring is right around the corner, but I have just realized I have not posted a new entry since October! Wow. Unacceptable!
New Years Resolution for 2012: Post more entries!

With a new year, came some changes! I recently moved to a new place that I love which is in south Fort Myers bringing me a little farther away from work. The "snowbirds" are in full force here in Cape Coral, Florida. The traffic has been crazy lately. If it wasn't for how much they stimulated our economy I would be very annoyed!

Another change for the new year is my hair! I no longer have long flowing locks. I now have sassy short hair! I must say it was a big change but I am absolutly loving it!

also, we added a new member to our family....

Her name is Winnie, and she is a Teddy bear puppy. Yes, teddy bear is really her breed! It's a mix between a Shit-zu and a Bichon.

Now that I have you up to speed, lets talk about hair trends for the Spring!

This season is all about adding new twists to old styles! The retro style waves are all the rage on the red carpet, were seeing more celebrities go for the short Audrey Hepburn pixie cut, the 80's asymmetrical cuts are making a comeback, and braids have been everywhere from the runway to your local schools.

I love how now-a-days anything goes as far as hair and makeup is concerned.

Now that the warmer season is approaching, I am having more requests for highlights and lighter tones. Ombre hair is still a phenomenon because of its low maintenance and high fashion look. Blondes are wearing more platinum, icy blonde tones, redheads are going for more of a vibrant look and brunets are rocking the sun kissed honey highlights.

Since I haven't posted in a while, here is some fun photos of my lovely clients!

Hair Feather Extensions... the truth..

So, I have to admit when I first saw the feather craze I jumped on it. They are a cute non premanent way to add some fun to your hair. They have been very popular lately! You can't go anywhere without seeing people of all ages wearing these fun fashion statements.

It wasn't until recently, when I saw an article on PETA that I realized the truth about feather extensions. Fist of all, they are from 100% REAL roosters genetically altered to produce long luxurious saddle feathers (these grow on they're backside and take YEARS to grow). After they are grown, the roosters are de-feathered and killed!
I would have never imagined they killed these roosters just for the feathers! This made me realize we need to find another way to keep clients happy but find a different way to provide feather-like pieces that give the same look without the cruelty.
So my boss Pam found alternative feathers which are hair extensions colored to look like feathers. Another great thing about these are that they are MUCH longer then the real feathers so it makes even more of a statement then the original feathers! They are $15 each and can be re-worn about 3 times.
They come in many different colors! I am currently wearing the black and white striped one made to look like a natural feather.

The next thing I would really like to try is rainbow extensions!

So as you can see, no roosters have to be killed to keep you looking fun this summer!

Networking fun!

Networking is a big part of my job. If you don't put yourself out there, chances are people won't see your work and what your all about. I would like to find more avenues to network and grow with my career!
Pam, my boss was nice enough to allow me to be a guest speaker at her most recent event! I gave a mini makeup tutorial to a very wonderful group of ladies! The organization is called 9th Wave and it's a great group of professional women empowering themselves and each other with positivity, life lessons, and new friends. I was a little intimidated at first but I had a lot of fun!

All in all, I have found that as long as you're having fun and love what you do it will never feel like a job!

Fun hair!

This is Jenna!

She is the receptionist at our salon. She has great hair and I've used her as a hair model before for the hair show. I was very inspired by Dev, a singer who has really awesome hair!

I pitched the idea to Jenna about doing this haircut on her because it suits her style, face, and personality and she was very excited to let me do this cut on her! Here is the results :)

hello... is it me your looking for?

Happy new years everyone! I apologize for my lack of blogging lately! it's been about 6 months since my last post! My new years resolution for 2011 is to update my blog more! I've done a lot these past few months! We just finished moving Hair to be Different to our new location! It's about 100 square feet larger than our last location, its more visible on the road, and we now have a boutique room to display our inventory of purses, jewelry, candles and more! We are very happy to have it up and running! Here are a few photos of the new salon!

Other than that, I have been busy at the salon doing some fun colors and cuts. Also, I had some weddings latey so i got the opportunity to take care of some brides and bridesmaids. They say 2011 is the year of the Rabbit according to the Chinese horoscopes meaning lots more fun weddings to come! So far I have a few coming up this year and i am anxious to meet all the brides and work with them on there special day! Like I've said before, hair design and updo work are some of my favorite things to do at the salon! Here are some more styles I have done in the past few months.
